gogtrial34987: I think that's overly harsh. I didn't read this as a typical GOG PR move at all - it didn't get any marketing effort behind it (not even a news post), nor (from the looks of it) a lot of internal resources; just two support people who got permission to spend a percentage of their time chasing up missing content and report about it on the forum.
And then the reality turned out to be that it's easier to convince developers to add missing DLC (which directly convert to extra money for them) than missing updates (which only give those developers nebulous goodwill, and probably are missing for actual reasons which would take a lot of effort to overcome). I hope they'll continue working on this, but I can also understand if they themselves are disappointed by the comparative lack of results and no longer consider it worth celebrating in that thread. Though for all we know, maybe Falran is just on vacation this week, and things'll continue as before next week?
Yes, the reality turns out that it is much easier to get stuff on GOG that makes ADDITIONAL money for the devs AND GOG instead of REQUESTING ... and DEMANDING to give their customers what they simply already paid for. No, I was not even harsh enough to them. All they can do is talk and talk and we won't get these updates in my lifetime because GOG simply does not care enough since they already made the money they wanted. It always was up to GOG how much pressure they would put on their partners to make them deliver what their customers paid for and GOG simply does not want to put any pressure on their scammer partners and that is the reason why this list is so long and will grow over time. How anybody can defend this is beyond me.
MMLN: I would not completely dismiss the effort yet. The initiative is only few months old. From what I read in this thread, lot of people here say, how hard it is to get in touch with some of the devs/publishers, and in some cases even harder to make them care *shruggs*
Oh yes, as a CUSTOMER who has no power at all and no contract at all it is pretty hard. These "partners" of GOG however have a legal contract with them so it should be far more easy for GOG to get in contact with them.
